This lesson plan can be used by Language Arts teachers and Math teachers. The teacher that created this lesson integrates student interest and involvement with sports to introduce them to spreadsheets, creating graphs, using the Internet for research, and also persuasive writing. This lesson suggests that this activity be done to wrap-up and segue into grammar by defining and identifying parts of speech throughout the report section of the project. In the example, the teacher uses baseball for the lesson but any sport can be used. Students will research information on different baseball players to determine which one is the best. Then, they will have to present the information, data, and statistics in a creative and efficient way. At the end, students have to write a persuasive paper. Not only are the students having to use Microsoft Excel, they also have to use Microsoft Word. Teachers can also integrate Microsoft Powerpoint for students to make slide shows about their favorite player, which ties in three different educational tools. This lesson seems very educational but fun for students and teachers as well!
