Use “New Post” on the Login-page to create your own thread. Then describe a lesson plan that involves the use of Excel. You can find an example from the internet, other sources, or create your own. Provide the spreadsheet if possible (e.g., add an attachment, link, etc). Respond to someone’s thread by commenting on their idea. For instance what are the strengths/weaknesses of the lesson? How can this idea be adapted by grade level, subject level, or modified to become interdisciplinary?
I can't find on my blog page where to click new post, except for under a different blog I created for my English class sophomore year. So until I can talk to you and show you what I'm talking about, I'm just going to post my blog under your post to make sure I get credit! Anyway..
ReplyDeleteThe Excel activity I found was at http://www.northcanton.sparcc.org/~technology/excel/files/visualizing_fractions.html, and it was one of MANY options. This activity consists of students learning fractions, and since my interest are from Kindergarten to second grade, hopefully math, fractions will be in my lesson plans! By using excel and typing formulas in the cells, students can practice typing fractions, and seeing them appear in a graph form right beside their fraction. Students can change the denominator and the numerator and watch how the pie graph fraction changes.
I ran into the same problem Haley did ill talk to you in class as well to get this straightened out I also forgot what my original account and password was so I created a new one to be able to post.
ReplyDeleteI found a great activity that incorporates students using excel. I found this on http://www.technokids.com/computer-curriculum/intermediate/excel-lesson-plans-for-middle-school-students-technoentrepreneur.aspx. The activity is as followed. To open their restaurant, students need money. Using a template provided with the Excel lesson plans, they learn how to write a professional letter to request start up capital for their business venture. They include graphed survey results to illustrate why their idea will be a success.
I think this is a great way to get them to use their knowledge to gain the interest of investors into their new business. It also has criteria that they write a professional letter in which they include graphs (a feature of excel) and any other ideas they can think of to show why their business will prosper if given the money. This activity is great for what students might run into in the real world if they look to open a business or ask for money for any kind.
